Help, I need to Cram!

Image
Cram is a Flashcard Creation Site with Some Terrific Features! Do your students a favor and introduce them to this site. Students appreciate using applications that help them study for tests, quizzes and to help them memorize.  And they are especially interested when the application includes a gaming feature !! Cram is a site that was shared with me by one of my colleagues (Thank you Catherine Wood!) who has been using Cram in her Spanish classes. Cram is appealing, simple and can be used on a browser or as an app. Here are some great features: Browse Cram for premade and ready to use flashcard sets.   It is obvious that Cram is quite popular and well used! Create a flashcard set from scratch or import a set from a file or from Google Docs Use shortcuts to practice the flashcards, with the ability for hints and text to speech. Use the Memorize tab to keep track of your progress. Keep practicing the facts you need to...

Flippity - Make your own set of attractive flashcards!

Image
Flippity is a new site that allows you to create your own flashcards and then share those flashcards with others.   To get started go to this website:  http://www.flippity.net/ Follow the directions on the site: Sharing can be as easy as sharing the link, printing off the flashcards or use the handy QR code for students to scan. I created a set of flashcards in just minutes for our students on the vocabulary that we are studying with our literature story this week.  Click here to view my flashcards. Flippity does have a FAQ page that I found very helpful. One of the nice features of Flippity is the ability to enter a YouTube video.  You can also enter the URL of a picture to put an image on your flashcards.   My plan is to have my students use Flippity to practice learning French words before our French Adventure students come to visit from Paris.  I would like the students to create the flashcards and then we can share t...

Flashcard Sites and Google Gadgets

Image
Lately our student teacher has been teaching a lot of vocabulary, which reminded me of several sites for flashcards and of Google Gadgets that can be used to review vocabulary. Here are some flashcard sites: Inside Story Flashcards  -  Stunning pictures, audio of each word, and short definitions all make this online vocabulary flashcard site visually stimulating and interesting. As a bonus, you can print all cards. Choose from basic, easy, medium, or hard levels of vocabulary to find and listen to words. Definitions can also be turned off for practice with word recall or guessing what the image represents. Flash Card Friends  -  Quizlet - one of my favorite flashcard sites!  Here is a video: I also wrote about two other vocabulary sites in this past post ; Easy Define and Word Stash. And then there's Google Gadgets!   The site Make Use Of has a great tutorial on how to use the Flashcard Gadget in Google Docs to cre...

Two Tools for Vocabulary and Spelling

Image
I am always looking for new tools to use with our Words Their Way word studies.  Lately we've been working a lot on synonyms, antonyms and word meanings.   Some of our favorite tools for working with our words have been: Dictionary.com Visuwords Spelling City Today I have two new tools to share with you! Recently I came across a new application called Easy Define . This site is great for looking up definitions for a lot of words all at once. See the screen captures below.    Here I copied and pasted three words.  You can paste as many as you wish.  When you click the List tab, your words show up with definitions.  Under the extras tab you can get synonyms for your words, quiz yourself, get flashcards in the form of a printable word document, or you can get worksheets.   Worksheets can be viewed online or downloaded.  Above are all of the choices.  I could see generating these for practice of reading or content ...
