Fact Monster is a site I recently discovered full of fun facts and information for students and teachers. Find facts about many topics including sports, science, people, etc. Also there is a great reference section with a homework center, atlas, dictionary, almanac, timeline and encyclopedia.   Here are a few things I found while searching through Fact Monster : A huge collection of U.S. facts and info. Profiles on each state. A really nice atlas of The world A continent A country Biographies from all over the world! There is so much more to discover at Fact Monster .  I highly recommend using Fact Monster with your students.

Online Picture Dictionary

Ipicthat is the world’s first free online dyslexic talking picture dictionary, aimed at people who suffer from dyslexia, specific learning difficulties and poor readers. I like that each word in the dictionary has an audio pronunciation that breaks down the sounds.  The tabs on the left offer the dictionary, scenarios (examples are kitchen, street, classroom etc), rules (examples are silent e, long and short vowels, spelling tips etc), and letter sounds (a wheel of the abcs with an image for each letter). See below: Check out this online version of a picture dictionary.

Great Interactive Dictionary Site

Image
Hi Everyone! Here is a link to a great interactive dictionary site for students to use.  We used it to create word webs for our vocabulary words.  The students also used the "Say it" feature that allows them to hear the word.  Each word in the web also gives a definition when you hover over the word.   A great site to make a word web on is bubbl.us .  This site takes a little practice, but students get the hang of it pretty quickly.
