Links and Loves- Four Ways to Fix Boring Slide Show Lessons, Seven YouTube Videos to Inspire You

Image
Happy Friday everyone. I hope you had an amazing week of teaching, lessons, inspiration and learning. If you are stuck in the days of reading text from a slideshow and having students write down everything on the slide to take notes, consider this instead, use these sites when presenting a PowerPoint or Slideshow to your class to add engagement and interactivity.  Using one of these sites, a teacher can incorporate time for students to reflect, class discussions, time to check for understanding and a place to add additional content to help students make critical connections. The time you put into preparing a lesson with one of these sites will pay off when you see students showing interest and a genuine enjoyment of taking part in the learning. 1. Blendspace 2. PearDeck 3. EdPuzzle 4. Nearpod YouTube is a place I turn to every day to learn and grow in my knowledge of all things technology, education and self care. This week’s Links and Loves is compos

Would You Know How to Teach Students About Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence Impacts Us Every Day AI, or Artificial Intelligence, is a part of each of our lives and the lives of our students, whether we realize it or not.  Here are just a few examples of how AI can impact our day. There are many more examples to mention. The examples above are ones that came to my mind at the time of writing this post . What About Teaching Students About AI? I've been facilitating an online class about artificial intelligence through ISTE U. Being a part of ISTE U , I have the wonderful opportunity to learn and gather resources from my online colleagues throughout the course, "Artificial Intelligence Explorations and Their Practical Use In School Environments". Below, I have collected some of the resources, projects and examples of AI that could be used in a lesson or project in your classroom. Click each hyperlink to be taken to the resource.     I'm learning so much from my ISTE U colleagues. They are a

Hello! How was your first full week of November? Check out these free November downloadable tech backgrounds . Since I am completely immersed in all things artificial intelligence right now, this post caught my eye. I would love to use my Amazon Alexa smart speaker in a classroom. The difficult part is that any smart speaker needs to be connected via wifi, which is pretty tricky when you are using school wifi. I need to revisit using my Alexa smart speaker in school to see if this is even possible. Speaking of AI, I was helping a teacher this week to create a Google Form quiz , and I showed her how to use the artificial intelligence built in to Google Form Quizzes to generate the right and wrong answers. Have you tried this yet ? Another thing that was on my list of things to try was Brush.ninja ! I discovered this animated Gif maker on this Instagram post from Learning In Hand.  I created two gifs using Brush.ninja . The first one was just for fun to learn all

Links and Loves: A Webinar, an Online Course and Three Sites from My Colleagues

Yesterday was a challenging day for our school because of a situation that brought about an hour long hard lockdown. I'm so thankful for our teachers who showed amazing professionalism, support and consideration for our students and staff. #TogetherWeAreBetter This Saturday, I will be presenting a SimpleK12 Webinar on Mobile Makerspaces: Tinkering with STEAM . This webinar is free and I will be sharing many ways to involve students in STEAM activities that are moveable and mobile and are fairly easy to implement. I love sharing all of the innovative things we are working on and using. In other exciting news, I have been given the amazing opportunity to be an instructor for a course called Artificial Intelligence Explorations and Their Practical Use in Schools. This course is being offered through ISTE U and is a nation-wide initiative. This is an incredible opportunity for me as well as the inspiring educators that are taking this online course. It’s so amazing to learn
